Sculpture, Holy Bishop with Staff – Germany. 17th century.

Lot: 15

Germany. 17th century.
Sculpture, Holy Bishop with Staff

Carved in three-quarter rounds, the back is flattened. Remnants of an earlier polychrome finish are visible. The standing figure depicts a saint in episcopal vestments with a mitre, the folds of which are meticulously observed and slightly stylized. His right hand is raised in blessing, and he holds a crosier in his left. The figure shows signs of age and damage to the paint layer; the crosier and mitre are later additions. Mounted on an openwork, gilded console with a cherub's head, which probably originally was not part of the figure. Figure height: 73 cm, console height: 17 cm, overall height: 90 cm. Provenance: Oetker Collection, Krefeld.

Reserve price: 600 €
