Sculpture, Mourning Mary
Carved in three-quarter circles from wood, with a flattened back. Remnants of an earlier paint layer have been covered over; the face has been heavily reworked. A full-length depiction of Mary standing on a square earthen base. The Virgin Mary wears a long, richly draped cloak and a headscarf. Her head is tilted slightly upwards, and her hands are crossed in front of her chest. The figure was probably originally part of a crucifixion group. It shows signs of age-related damage and restorations; the base has been subsequently framed with carved moldings. Height: 69 cm. Provenance: Oetker Collection, Krefeld.
