Hans (Jean) Arp (1886 - 1966)
'Homme vu par une fleur', 1958

From an edition of approximately 400 copies. Published on behalf of the artist by L'Association Sans But Lucratif as a gift to the supporters of the exhibition '50 ans d'art modern' at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. Bronze, polished. Approx. 10.5 x 5 x 11.5 cm. Hans (Jean) Arp is one of the central figures of Dadaism and Surrealism. His work is characterized by organic forms, chance techniques, and a poetic visual language that consciously breaks free from traditional artistic conventions. Arp understood art as a process that unfolds between nature, intuition, and play. The sculpture Homme va par une fleur (roughly translated as 'Man Walks Through a Flower') is a characteristic example of Arp's biomorphic formal language. Soft, flowing contours combine human and plant elements into a unity that defies easy categorization. The work evokes movement and transformation and invites reflection on the relationship between humanity and nature. Arp's reduced yet sensual formal language lends the sculpture a timeless, almost meditative quality.
