Chair model 'Redesigned Thonet no. 14'

Designed in 1978. Executed as an Anthologie Quartett chair in 1983, it was produced by Italcomma. Bentwood, metal, lacquered wood, and plywood, with canework. 137 x 100 x 80 cm. According to the manufacturer, only 28 of this chair were produced.

With the Redesign collection, the Alchimia group already offered a tongue-in-cheek critique of the emotionless mass production of modernism in 1978.
Here, Mendini enhanced a 19th-century classic with playful elements that subdued the functional design and filled the object with life and emotion. The mass-produced product is elevated to a new dimension and appears to the viewer as an individual work of art.
