These abstract works from 2008 illustrate Markus Lüpertz's characteristic exploration of color, form, and gestural movement. Between figuration and abstraction, the artist develops a distinctive visual language in which bold fields of color, dynamic lines, and tension-filled superimpositions engage in dialogue. Lüpertz combines expressive brushstrokes with a deliberately chosen, often archaic-seeming formal language. The works appear as open pictorial spaces in which color and composition are less concerned with a definitive representation than with immediate painterly expression.
