Photophores Perles candlestick model

The French designer André Dubreuil (1951–2022) is considered an exceptional figure in contemporary design. Often described as the 'Poet of Iron,' he combined traditional blacksmithing techniques with an expressive, almost surreal formal language. His work oscillates between Baroque, avant-garde, and a deliberately raw, experimental style, which in the 1980s was also influenced by the London underground scene.

The Photophores Perles series (c. 1988–1990) is among his best-known designs. These are candlesticks made of patinated and partially gilded steel, combined with glass elements in the form of beads. The metal structure often evokes organic, branching forms that enclose the glass spheres, creating a captivating interplay between hardness and transparency.
