Wall regulator by Joseph Elsner in Vienna, 19th century.
So-called roof clock. Mahogany-veneered case on softwood, edges trimmed with maple. Straight, tall rectangular, three-sided glazed body made of narrow struts with profiled cornice and roof finial and door. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, finely blued iron hands, and a wide, finely edged, fire-gilt bezel. Huygens weight-wound mechanism, thread suspension, pendulum. 86 x 26 x 11 cm. Clock's working order not tested.
Joseph Elsner (1796-1853/56) was a prominent Viennese clockmaker of the Biedermeier period, known for his highly precise lantern and roof clocks. Originally from Bohemia, the master craftsman worked in Vienna from around 1838 and produced clocks with long running times.
