Max Clarenbach (1880–1952) is one of the leading artistic figures of Rhenish Impressionism. As a painter, he devoted himself with particular sensitivity to the Lower Rhine landscape, capturing its expansive horizons, tranquil river courses, and atmospheric light in a finely nuanced, tonal palette. After his studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, Clarenbach developed a distinctive style that combined observation of nature with poetic concision. His works are characterized by a serene composition, subtle use of light, and a harmonious overall effect.
