Western saddle
In richly cut and tooled brown leather, on a wooden core. The pommel and saddle hardware are decorated with silver fittings and turquoise trim. The stirrups are covered with leather aprons, the decorations featuring floral details interspersed with leather strap appliqués. The underside is covered in white sheepskin. On the back of the saddle, a former owner's name is engraved on a silver plaque: 'Mrs. Dusty Owens.' The maker's mark "Edward H. Bohlin Maker / Hollywood CA" is stamped on the top of the saddle. Founded in the 1920s, the Edward H. Bohlin Company was a legendary Hollywood firm renowned for its luxurious, high-quality, handcrafted Western saddles, bridles, silverware, and Western-style leather accessories. Founder Edward H. Bohlin (1895-1980) was also known as the 'Saddlemaker to the Stars'. The company's heyday was in the 1930s, when cowboys reigned supreme in Hollywood. Bohlin crafted equipment for many famous Hollywood actors of the era, including John Wayne, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Montie Montana and Clayton Moore. Known for its meticulous attention to detail, the company employed only the finest silversmiths and saddlers to meet the exacting standards of its discerning, celebrity clientele. Today these pieces are highly sought-after collector's items.
