Adolf Luther* (1912 - 1990)
Hanging lens
Semi-transparent mirrored glass lens, convexly curved, acrylic glass, hard plastic frame. Diameter 50 cm. Listed in the catalogue raisonné of the Adolf Luther Foundation Krefeld under number LSO 70 007. The German artist Adolf Luther is one of the most important representatives of light and object art. At the heart of his work is not the classical art object, but the phenomenon of light itself, which he understands as a creative material. His so-called 'hanging lenses' consist of transparent glass or plastic elements that are freely installed in space. These lenses focus, refract, and multiply the incident light, so that depending on the viewer's position, constantly new visual impressions arise. The works are thus less static than process-oriented and continuously change through movement, perspective, and ambient light. Certificate of authenticity from the Adolf Luther Foundation is available.
