Pierre François Feuchère (1737-1823), attributed
Pair of Empire centerpieces, around 1815/20
Bronze, matte and polished gilt. A wide, finely openworked basket bowl formed of anthemnia, supported by three winged genii, on a tall, round shaft with delicate applications in the form of flower garlands. Unmarked. H 42 cm; D 22 cm. Numerous advertisements published by P.F. Feuchère during the Louis XVI era attest to his wide production range of gilt bronze objects and his activity as a dealer even before the fall of the monarchy. His son, Lucien François, worked in the workshop and played a significant role in making the Feuchère company one of the most important suppliers of bronzes for the "Garde Meuble" in the Empire, supplying numerous pieces for the furnishings of the Tuileries, Compiège, Meudon, Petit Trianon, and Pitti Palaces, among others. A design drawing attributed to PF Feuchère with an analogously designed group of figures is illustrated in H. Ottomeyer / P. Pöschel, Vergilete Bronzen - Die Bronzen des Spätbarock und Klassizismus, Munich 1986; I, p. 384 (Fig. 5.16.5).
