The Powell Duffryn Mural, 16-part installation, 1961
Stoneware, some interlocking, differently structured surfaces, with glazes ranging from manganese black and brown, to rich layered sand and cream shades. 650 x 300 cm total size, D. 60 cm largest ceramic, D. 30 cm smallest ceramic. The Powell Duffryn Mural has been in the private possession of a major German ceramic collector since February 1985. The rehanging of the wall installation was planned, arranged and carried out personally by the ceramic artist Beate Kuhn and Dr. Paul Köster (Kunstkammer Köster) in the mid-1990s. The whereabouts of the sixteen impressively powerful ceramic discs had been unknown since 1985 and thus access was denied to the public.
Generally good condition with signs of wear. One black disc has a fine crack and a restoration. One two-part work has a chip on the edge of the light disc. The dark form of another two-part work has been restored. Otherwise, there are some small chips on various edges. Some chips on the back. See photos.
