Gothic coffer, 12th/13th century
Ivory. 12.3 x 20.5 x 11.7 cm. Gilt copper fittings. Rectangular box shape, the corners accentuated by three fittings each, with teardrop-shaped ends. Two small, square folding handles on the sides. Simple lock with a folding bolt. The roof-shaped lid also has accentuated corners and another small, square folding handle. Later velvet lining. Ball feet are a later addition. Provenance: Private collection, Vienna.
