Oil on canvas. 25 x 20.5 cm. Signed and dated lower right: Adelheid Dietrich, 1860 (oil), inscribed on the reverse of the canvas, among other things: A. Dietrich (oil), and a nameplate on the frame. Faded paper label of a Munich gallery on the reverse of the stretcher. Framed and described as such.
Adelheid Dietrich was the daughter and pupil of the landscape and history painter Eduard Dietrich (1803-1877). She primarily painted flower and fruit still lifes in the style of 17th-century Dutch painting. Her paintings are characterized by extraordinary precision. She first exhibited her work in Dresden in 1847; approximately 50 of her paintings survive.
