Elsass, late 18th century
Neoclassical chest of drawers
Various fruitwoods veneered on oak and softwood. Straight, rectangular body on a narrow frame with beveled corners and tapered square feet. The articulated front features three drawers connected by a flat central projection. A matching, slightly overhanging top panel. The veneer panels are broadly framed and feature diamond-pattern marquetry, with additional inlaid floral garlands on the front. The top panel features a central vase motif. Gilded brass fittings, and the edges are framed all around with brass profiles. Monogrammed. Attributed to Jacob Stern, Strasbourg. 85 x 118 x 56 cm.
