France, early 19th century
Neo-Gothic fountain clock in Empire style

Early 19th century. Cast bronze, greenish-brown patinated, and partially gilded. Gilded, flower-shaped bronze dial with painted black Roman numerals. The clockwork is finely engraved and inscribed. The clock case is in the form of an arched fountain niche, flanked by two columns supporting a tall, neo-Gothic pointed gable. Inside the niche, a gargoyle is the gilded mask of a river god, spewing a jet of water—represented by a rod of twisted crystal glass, which is also moved by a mechanism inside the clock—into a shell-shaped bowl, which flows into a water basin of cut crystal glass. Gilded feet in the shape of griffins. 40 x 20 x 12 cm.

Slight signs of wear, cover for the clockwork on the back is missing, clockwork not checked for running order, key present.
