Herbert Hamak* (1952)
'C704N', 1995
Wall sculpture. Mixed media (resin & pigments) on canvas. 11 x 110 x 80 cm. Signed, dated, and inscribed on the underside of the stretcher: H. Hamak / 1995 / C704N. Herbert Hamak is one of the most distinctive figures in contemporary sculpture. He gained international renown for his characteristic works in translucent, colored synthetic resin, which oscillate between painting and sculpture. In clearly defined, often geometric forms, Hamak creates works of remarkable presence and, at the same time, an immaterial quality: light seems to penetrate the material, lending the surfaces an almost floating depth. Since the 1980s, the artist has continuously developed his unmistakable formal language. His works are represented in major museums and collections worldwide and captivate with their minimalist aesthetic, sensual color, and precise craftsmanship.
