Ornate pendulum clock, late 18th century.

Case carved from softwood, ebonized and gilded. The bell-shaped case rests on sculpted and gilded paw feet. The front has a glazed door, the back is mirrored. A laurel wreath crowns the case. The stamped and gilded, cartouche-shaped brass dial features lavish, raised leaf volutes with a silvered ring of Latin numerals. Mechanical movement with a front-tipped pendulum and verge escapement. Below the movement is an additional swinging pendulum, upon which sits a composition-painted figure of a diminutive man wearing a pointed cap; further figures of this type stand on the base of the clock case. 54 x 53 29 cm.
